Hotel Elqui Domos

Today we will talk about a curious hotel located in Chile. Its name is Elqui Domos and its principal feature is the fact that is designed to see the stars. The particular clime of the zone benefits for a clear sky and makes easy to see the stars at night. The hotel is concretely located in the Elqui’s Valley between two large cliffs on the slopes of the Andes.

Since long time, a lot of people came to this valley to see the stars, so someone saw in this valley a good place to build a hotel that takes profit of all of that. His idea was to build a hotel where the rooms are individually located along the valley and made it with a translucent cloth so the people could saw the stars and enhance the astronomic experience of the clients.

After having informed about all the aspects of the Elqui Domos I would leave you a SWOT analysis that I made to see where are the strengths and the weaknesses of the hotel:

Hotel Astronómico Elqui Domos / Rodrigo Duque Motta © Cristóbal Palma

Strengths: It’s a unique hotel that offers a unique experience. It’s made it with woods, which means that it’s very close to the nature and that may like so much to that people interested in nature tourism.

Weaknesses: It is very little known by the people and the facilities of the hotel aren’t very big so can’t accommodate a lot of people at the same time. The fact that is so different from the rest of the hotels can make that many people won’t like to come.

Opportunities: The hotels could offer so many things apart from the astrology, they have a big valley where they can arrange tours or do extreme sports.

Threats: They are too dependent on the climate of the area and that can turns against him.

That was all, we hope you enjoyed.

Be curious!

It was built in 2 years and was painted in a yellow colour. When Expo ends in 1900, the French army install a radio antenna on the top of tower taking advantage of its high height, for this reason, the tower must remain there. Along decades, Eiffel Tower start to Symbolize Paris city, the publishers made and amazing work relating the tower with terms like the love, they repeat and now, Paris is known like the ‘’City of Love’’ and Eiffel Tower is the main symbol.

Cappadocia

Today we will go to Turkey to talk about Cappadocia. Probably you should know about Cappadocia or at least have heard about that but today you will know more about this beautiful place and how the tourism in the zone starts.

First of all you have to know that Cappadocia is an historical place located in Central Anatolia and its main feature is its geological formation, which it’s unique in the entire world, as well as its cultural and historical heritage.

In 1930 and 1940, when the Europeans have noticed about this incredible place, thanks of the dissemination of the French priest Guillaume de Jerphanion with his studies about the churches in Cappadocia –very common-, they started to travel to Turkey to see Cappadocia and its beauties. Was then when the tourism started to growth until arrived to a growth so large that they have to start to build a lot of infrastructure to keep the tourists and comply their demands.

In the 70s the tourism had reached such high numbers of tourists that its twenty hotels in the zone were not enough, so if they wanted to keep the tourists they had to think what to do to solve this problematic. The solution was to start to rent rooms of their houses and transform their homes to receive the tourists; meanwhile they were building new hotels and infrastructures.

Thanks to that, nowadays, the zone has undergone an economic revitalization that helped not only the tourism but the small business like ceramic, textiles and crafts and its one of the favorites places to do natural tourism.

Salar de Uyuni

Could you imagine 12000 km2 of salt? In Bolivia exists an incredible desert of salt and the Bolivians have known how to take profit of this. The name of this desert is Salar de Uyuni and it is specifically located in the Potosí department in the southwest of Bolivia. Uyuni is one of the biggest reservations of lithium in the world, and there are great quantities of magnesium, potassium and boron.

As you must imagine this is a big economic source as there are a lot of tones of salt with they can trade as well as with the lithium and the other components already said. But the economic source it is not finished with the traffic of salt there also exist the tourism attraction. A lot of people came every year to see the awesome view of a desert of salt because the desert is transparent and it’s seems like you are walking over a mirror.

But to gain more tourists they thought to build a hotel with blocks of salt in the middle of the desert. It’s a small hotel but soon became a very popular tourist destination. This is the second hotel that it is build in the desert, the first was smaller and it’s had 12 double rooms, a common bathroom, and no shower. In the current hotel they had included a dry sauna and a steam room, a saltwater pool and whirlpool baths.

Another very popular attraction is the train cemetery. This cemetery contains the old trains that distribute the salt of the desert to the Pacific Ocean ports. In the 40s the mineral industry collapsed for the mineral depletion so many of trains were abandoned and they became a train cemetery. Someone saw in this trains a tourism source and convert this in an attraction for the tourists.
